The Renaissance lasted from approximately 1450-1600 AD. Not only was it the flowering of new types of art, but it was also a time for new types of music.
It is the best place to begin our study of classical music. But there were many important contributions to music in the centuries leading up to it. We will therefore briefly discuss music in the early Middle Ages, then spend most of this lesson introducing you to the great musical personalities of the Renaissance.
