    There are a lot of Bible commentaries out there from many different perspectives. I will provide a few that are older (hence available online) and fall within the well-respected bounds of evangelical protestantism and also are not too academic.

    The first is Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the whole Bible. Henry wrote in the 1700’s, but his insight has been famous for many years. Here is his complete commentary; there is also a concise commentary on this site:

    The next is from two evangelical German scholars from the 19th century who wrote a famous series just on the Old Testament. It is a bit more scholarly, although very readable:
