Assignment
- Draw a horizon line about 10 inches up from the bottom of the page, and place one vanishing point about 3 inches in from the right side.
- Draw your first skyscraper near the horizon line as a rectangle about 3 inches wide and 4½ inches tall. Erase the horizon line inside the building so it does not look see-through.
- Connect the two corners closest to the vanishing point back to the vanishing point, then add a short vertical line to make the building shallow.
- Fill the front of this first building with small square windows. These do not need to angle back because that face is flat to the viewer.
- Draw a second skyscraper about 1 to 1½ inches away from the first one. Make it taller, and shape the side so it steps inward instead of staying a plain rectangle.
- Connect the visible top corners of this second building back to the vanishing point, drawing only the parts you can actually see. Trim the building depth if needed, and erase extra orthogonal lines.
- Add windows to the front face of the second building as regular squares, but make the windows on the side angle back toward the vanishing point. Use short vertical dashes first, then connect their top and bottom corners back to the vanishing point.
- Draw a third building about 1 inch away from the second one. Make it about 3 inches wide and only about 1½ inches tall. Erase the horizon line inside it.
- Connect the nearest top corners of this third building back to the vanishing point, again drawing only what would remain visible behind the buildings in front.
- Turn this third building into an open garage or structure by drawing two openings in the front. Erase the lines inside the openings so you can “see into” the building.
- Draw the back interior edge of the garage by connecting the visible inside corner to the vanishing point. Erase hidden parts of that line so it looks like the pillars block your view.
- Add thin interior side edges to the pillars and angle the bottom edges back toward the vanishing point. Then finish the city by adding more buildings, keeping everything either parallel to the horizon line or leading back to the vanishing point.
