Lesson 4 of 4
In Progress

3. Handel

The culmination of the Baroque period is represented in the works of two great German masters: and George Frederick Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Unlike the masters of the early 17th century, Bach and Handel perfected rather than invented forms and styles. Although both were German by birth, their music, taken as a whole, reflects an amazing combination of the schools and styles we’ve just studied.

Curiously, they were born the same year, just one month apart, and less than 100 miles from each other – and yet they never met. Since Handel was born first, we will begin with him.
