How to Use This Course
Welcome to General Science!
Navigating This Course
The first semester of General Science includes the study of geology, paleontology, archaeology, simple machines, science history, the scientific method and experimental design. The second semester serves as an introduction to life sciences and biology with focus on human anatomy and human physiology.
This course includes several components:
- Lecture videos
- Readings from the textbook
- Module study guides
- Module quizzes
- Handouts
- Labs
- Module Tests
- Additional resources
Lecture Videos
At the start of each week, you will watch a prerecorded lecture video. Since these were recorded for the live class in the 2020-2021 school year, please be aware that not everything Mrs. Kookogey mentions in class will apply to you as an online student.
After watching the lecture, students may move on to Assignment Before Next Lesson step, which lists all of their homework for the week. In addition, there may occasionally be some helpful videos or links for deeper learning.
Readings & Study Guides
The readings and study guides are located in the General Science textbook. See the Book List step for details.
Parents, please follow these steps to grade the Study Guide:
- Check your student’s answers with the solutions manual. Mark any that are incorrect.
- Have your student see which questions they got wrong and allow them to correct the answers with the help of the textbook.
- If they are completely stumped, go through the correct answer in the solutions manual with them so that they understand.
- Have the student write in the correct answer, so that the Study Guide is now completed with all correct answers.
Tip: Students can use the study guide to help prepare for the Module Tests!
Handouts & Labs
Handouts and labs are found in the course materials. You can download the complete Course Materials for General Science in one file.
Tests and Quizzes
Module Tests are found in the Solutions Manual along with their respective answer keys. If you would like your Module Tests to be formally graded, you can sign up for personalized grading.
There are two places to find Quizzes for this course. Quizzes 1-3, 5, 6, 9, 11, 14 are found in the textbook. They are scattered throughout the Module content, and the answers are found near the end of the Module, right before the Study Guide. Quizzes 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, and 15 are found in the course files. The answer keys for these are in the course files as well.
