Good afternoon! My name is Alec, I work for CLT.

I just wanted to start a conversation about college. What do you all look for in a good college? In other words, what makes a college worth applying to?

Hi, Alec. Thank you so much for the work you do @ CLT! I’m a homeschool mom of a (currently) high school junior who has been taking the CLT (8,10, etc) since the 8th grade. We are thick in the hunt for a quality college, so this question comes up regularly in our household. For us, we are looking for a private, Christian (by the traditional definition), conservative-leaning, small to medium (500-5k) college with a proven success for their pre-med students (getting into med school as a biology or biological sciences major). There are some other factors, but those are the ones we are looking at overall. We’d love to hear testimonies or suggestions from the community!

Hillsdale was at the top of our list until we visited Liberty University.

Wow.

I never thought we would send a child there. God is doing a work there right now. It’s pretty cool to watch. And they gave him an almost completely free ride based on test score. So God opened that door and He didn’t open Hillsdale. Praise God! He trusted Christ for salvation a couple weeks ago, so yeah. I’m really, really happy with Liberty. 🙂

I am sure Alec will have some great college recommendations, but the one that pops into my mind is Hillsdale College, which is very close to me in proximity and I happen to know a lot of the staff. Hello Maura,

My apologies for not replying earlier! Hillsdale is at the tippy top of our list, as in, they are a Hard Reach school for us. It would be a dream for our girl to attend there, and we will apply, but she has a bit of a climb to get them into a Target or Safety range (she has exceeded their GPA and ACT averages, but she needs to improve her SAT score).
