Lesson 5B – Oppidum. It says there are two cases, nominative singular and ablative singular. Why isn’t it also vocative singular? The same for Zebra. It says it is nominative singular and ablative singular. Why isn’t it also vocative singular?

    Hi Kalanit!

You are correct—oppidum and zebra can both be vocative singular. Those are errors. Here is a list of errata for Visual Latin 1 that may come in handy in the future. Let me know if you have any other questions!

You are probably good, but here is a video I created some years ago for this chapter. I’ve confused a lot of people with lesson 5. I made this to clear up the confusion.

Thank you to the original poster and thank you for the clarification video, Dwane!! My daughter had this same issue this week and as this is her second time through VL1 (did it as an 8th grader as a prep and is doing it again this year as a credit with additional resources – 38 Latin Stories and Lingua Latina), I think this is REALLY going to make things solid for her!! Thankful since I’ve been VERY nervous about Latin as her language lol

        Hi, Vita!

You are welcome! Glad it helped.

I love Lingua Latina! If your daughter gets stuck, let her know she can post questions here. Happy to make more videos to help clear things up.

Hope you are having a great day!
