After correcting worksheet 31c, it seems that our son is having a difficult time with determining the tense (past vs present) of a word in translation. What lesson(s) would be helpful for him to review? Thank you in advance.

    Hi Terri!

If I remember correctly, past tense verb forms are not mentioned until later in Visual Latin 2 (after Lesson 37), so most of the translations before that should be present tense (unless otherwise specified). In 31C, for example, all the verbs should be in the present tense, except for erat in the first paragraph. That verb is mentioned way back in Lesson 18 in the vocabulary list and can be translated as was; he, she, or it was; there was.

At this point, I don’t think your son has “officially” learned past tense Latin yet (but correct me if I’m wrong!), so there’s not really a lesson to review on that. However, I would suggest that you take a look at Lesson 9 to solidify present tense endings. That way you can be sure when to translate verbs into the English present tense.

    Hope this helps!
