Hello! Anyone have advice? My rising 8th grader wants to take Latin as her HS language but we want to get her started in 8th grade. I found the link to the “Guide for Teachers” but is the process for both 1 and 2 to read the Lingua Latina book with the Visual Latin or is there something else to do with level 2? Thank you!

    Hi Vita,

One of the ways Dwane set up the course was to take advantage of the Lingua Latina book as a stretch reading exercise once students got through the grammar and modified readings with him. He can comment on how he’s seen that used in the past, but I know he is a huge fan of review. For instance, you could start integrating Lingua Latina at any time in either VL1 or VL2 and pick up the earliest chapters in LL and just sight read as a check on understanding of simple grammar. Read until you get stumped, then use our guide to unlock the grammar of a certain LL chapter before diving back in.

    Hi, Vita!

Ben’s right. I like review. When it comes to languages, you almost can’t get enough.

You could easily break it down this way:

    8th Grade: Visual Latin 1

9th Grade: Visual Latin 2 and Lingua Latina.

10th Grade: Continue on with Lingua Latina.

Lingua Latina more than satisfies the requirements for high school Latin.

If you do this, and find you need help with Lingua Latina, I have taught the book for years on my site: http://www.dwanethomas.com. Some people find they need help in the latter chapters. It’s a tough book. Well worth it. But, tough.

Let me know if you need more help.

Hope you are having a great night!
