    Hello friends!

Dave joined me yesterday in the office for a conversation about his curriculum. If you didn’t get a chance to attend—or want to review it again—you can watch the replay here.

Learn how Dave became a teacher and developed a love of history. Hear how he describes the purpose of his history series in his own words. He even answers the question the order in which to take the courses! (Hint: you can’t go wrong!). Finally, hear how Dave designed each of the pieces of the course to work together.

Plus, Dave offers a lot of encouragement to parents along the way.

Have any follow-up questions? Post a reply and Dave will swing by and respond.

Oh man! I somehow missed that the 6/14 session was even happening! Have 6/28 on my calendar and am looking forward to it!

I’m excited to be leading a discussion group of about 8 high school kids who are all watching the Modernity videos at home, and then meeting once a week to discuss the lessons. Some of the students are already planning on scaling the course (including my daughter), and I was surprised to hear in the webinar that Mr. Raymond scales the readings rather than the projects for his live classes. However, his reasoning made sense, and he convinced me that is the way to go.

That said, I am learning right along with these kids, so I’m having a hard time figuring out which 2 readings we will focus on each week. I’m trying to make a schedule ahead of time, and it is daunting not having read everything already! Would Mr. Raymond be willing to share which 2 of each week’s readings he assigns when he scales the class back?

    Thanks in advance!

I’ve asked Dave for his thoughts. My guess is that he makes a different call each year based on how his live lectures and discussion flowed. For instance, if he discussed Daniel Webster more in depth than he normally does, he might not assign the Webster reading in a lesson as he normally does.

      I’ll keep you posted!

For everyone else, I’ve added a recording of yesterday’s 3-way round-robin with Dave, Jonathan, and Dwane to the History group here!

Thank you! I’m interested to hear his thoughts. At this point, I have just read the thought questions before each reading and tried to use them to gauge the topics I think the kids will like to explore.

Dave wrote back that he doesn’t have a list already in place for selecting the two readings. He runs with what he thinks looks most interesting each week, taking into account the way that discussions transpired and the unique interests of the students in his classroom.

          Your approach seems quite sound!
