I’ll be doing some research myself on this, but I’m wondering if anyone has any insight on why the priest in the account of Vineland is referred to as a “trickster.” I was always under the impression, as Lesson 3.3 in American History teaches, that Erikson was a Christian when he took the voyage in reference. I’m wondering if there is a etymological reason the Scandinavian word used for “priest” is translated- or transliterated- as “trickster” sometimes.
