Hi. My high school son struggles with reading skills. He understands the material and concepts but struggles with the reading assignments. We usually walk through them orally but I would like to find a way to increase his critical reading skills, if possible, so he can glean more on his own from a written text. Does anyone have tips, suggestions or resources I can use to help him increase his reading skills?

(Note: He is taking American History att.)

A study Bible, where a theologian/teacher explains the text, could help him. I would also suggest Mr. Callihan’s courses on Western culture, as he does a good job of explaining the texts from which he teaches. It may also be helpful if you are familiar with the books he’s assigned or have time to read them yourself to discuss the books with him.
