Celtx Scriptwriting Program

Hello, Compass Classroom! It looks like Celtx (re: Lesson 2) no longer offers a free desktop version. Instead, I can only find a free 7-day trial. I just want to double-check that we’re not missing where to find the free desktop version referenced in the lesson. (The free version may just not be available anymore. If that’s the case, do you have another resource you would recommend for learning the formal way of formatting scripts?) Thank you!

Yes, it looks like Celtx has finally stopped their free version. Here’s a list of a bunch of other options, with Drama Queen looking pretty good as a downloadable version (vs. an app): https://www.scriptreaderpro.com/free-screenwriting-software/
-
BTW – can you remind me where I mention that in the actual curriculum? I can update it. If you end up using a few versions of the software, let me know what you like best.

Thanks for providing some alternatives, Thomas! Celtx is referenced in Step 6 of Lesson 2 – A Magical Story. (When the screen is open to this lesson, it’s labeled as Lesson 3, Step 6 at the top, although this lesson is listed as Lesson 2 on the sidebar. I think this may be because the system considers the introduction as the first lesson.)

Hi, I was wondering what script program to use. Is there a specific one you prefer now, or should I just find one that works?
-
If the link is for a program, I’m not sure how to use it. It takes me to a website, but I don’t think you can do screenwriting on there. Sorry for the questions, I am confused.

Hi Seraph—Thomas may have an updated list when he weighs in, but the link he provided on 9/21 has a number of software recommendations that aren’t websites/services. Celtx has a free version that is pretty crippled until you purchase a subscription. Can you try Drama Queen?
Others: Thomas has updated the appropriate step in the courseware so that you can have his newest recommendation as you work through the course itself.

Thank you so much Mr. Crist. I will give it a try. Have a good rest of your day.
