Grading

Would anyone be willing to share how they are going about the chapter tests? Today I was supposed to give the chapter 1 test and wasn’t quite sure how to go about it. Are you giving all questions or only choosing a select amount? Also, how are you going about grading? Are you giving a certain point value to each component of the test? (for instance, would you give more value to an essay question than a question that asks about definitions?) I am a bit new to grading and such, so any input would be greatly appreciated!

We are doing this with a freshman, so doing all the questions is way overboard. We are doing 2 questions per section, and maybe up to 5 for the chapter test. Grading is subjective but mastery of the connect is the goal. Redoing it until they understand it.

My daughter is a freshman. She completed her first test today, for Chapter 1. I gave her two terms to define (5 points each), three sets of terms to compare/contrast (10 points each), and five essay questions to be answered with a short paragraph (she could choose any four, for 15 points each, or she could answer the fifth one for extra credit).
